ネパールのサッカー界を変えるため、子どもたちに夢と希望を与えるため、Jリーグに挑戦します！

レアーレワールドでは、ヒーロープロジェクトを通して、次世代を担う子どもたちのロールモデルとなりうるリーダーの育成をしています。

今回、お話を伺ったのは、そのヒーロープロジェクトのリーダーとして活動してくれているキラン選手。自分の夢を実現するために日夜努力する姿を通して、ネパールの青少年、日本の子どもたちに大きな刺激を与えています。

そんなキラン選手に、レアーレワールドと出会って変わったことやヒーロープロジェクトを通して、子どもたちに伝えたいことをお話しいただきました。

－サッカーを始めたのは何歳の頃だったのでしょう？その頃の思い出は？

僕が育ったのは、首都カトマンズから遠く離れた小さな村。その村でサッカーを始めたのが12歳の頃で、最初は特にポジションは決まってない遊びのようなサッカーでした。ゴールキーパーになったのは、13歳か14歳のころ。

村でプレーしてた頃、サッカーは楽しかったけど、僕の家は貧しくて、シューズを買ってもらえなかった。人のお古の靴をもらって、それを履いてプレーしてました。お古の靴はあちこち破れていて、バスで1時間の町まで出かけて行って、靴を縫ってもらっていました。それでも僕はサッカーが好きだった。放課後は毎日のようにサッカーしていました。

－プロ選手になろうと思ったのはいつですか？

そうしてプレーしているうちに郡のチームから声がかかり、郡のチームでプレーするようになりました。さらに15歳でU16のネパールユース代表チームに呼ばれ、それからの３年間は、カトマンズのANFA（ネパールサッカー協会）アカデミーで勉強しながらサッカーの練習をしました。

U１６からずっとユースの代表チームのメンバーでしたが、試合では使ってもらえませんでした。でも、僕は諦めなかった。上手になって試合で使ってもらえるようになろうと毎日必死で練習しました。

そして、18歳の時、初めてスターティングメンバーに選ばれました。それもユースではなく、ネパール代表チームです。ネパール代表チームは年上の先輩ばかりで、ゴールキーパーも大先輩がいたから、勉強させてもらう気持ちで参加していました。でも、僕のことを見てくれていて、認めてくれている人がいた。レギュラーになれないからと投げやりにならなくてよかった。コツコツ練習してきてよかった、と心から思いました。

その頃ですね。僕にとってサッカーは自分の人生の全てだ、プロ選手になろう！と思ったのは。
そして、19歳、クラブチームとプロ契約し、プロ選手としての人生が始まり、現在に至っています。

－なぜ、ヒーロープロジェクトに協力しようと思ったのでしょうか？

レアーレワールドのサントス理事は選手としては大先輩で、クラブチームでも、ネパール代表チームでも一緒にプレーさせてもらった尊敬する選手です。

そのサントス先輩が、ネパールに一時帰国した時、レアーレワールドの代表理事の三好さんと一緒に話す機会があって、ヒーロープロジェクトのことを説明してくれたんです。ヒーロープロジェクトは、子どもたちのロールモデルとなるヒーローを育てることで、子どもたちの生き方をリードし希望あふれる世界を実現するプロジェクトとと聞き、とても興味を持ちました。このプロジェクトはネパールの次世代の子どもたちにとって必要なものだと感じました。

僕も、ネパールの青少年たちに希望を与えることのできるロールモデルになりたい！そう思ってこのプロジェクトに協力することにしました。

－レアーレワールドと出会う前と、出会った後では、何か変化がありましたか？

レアーレワールドに出会って、僕は本当にたくさんのことを学びました。

どのような食事をどのように取るべきなのか、ボディメンテナンスとは何か、その具体的な方法、効果的なトレーニングのやり方、謙虚であること、感謝することの大切さ、自分を律すること等々。
プロとしてどうあるべきか、またプロ以前に人としてどうあるべきかを教えてくれました。

それまでも僕なりに頑張ってきたつもりでしたが、足りなかった部分をたくさん学ぶことができました。より前向きに、サッカーに、そして自分の人生に向き合うことができるようになったと思います。

ネパールのプロ選手はまだまだプロ意識が足りません。どんな手を使っても勝てばいいという人や、サッカーさえ上手ならいいという態度の人として尊敬できない人も多いのが現状です。
レアーレワールドと出会ったことで、こんなネパールのサッカー界の現状を変えたいと強く思うようにもなりました。

－2019年にJリーグにチャレンジした感想は？

ネパールに比べたら、日本はサッカーのレベルがとても高い国です。だからJリーグのトライアウトが受けられて、本当に幸せだと思ったし、エキサイティングな体験でした。

選手のレベルも高く、サッカーをする環境も素晴らしい、ネパールと比べたら全てにおいてクオリティが高い。でも、それだけではありません。僕は、トライアウトを通して日本の素晴らしい文化や思いやりの心に触れることができました。

途上国でサッカーが弱いネパールから来た僕を、見下すことなく、一人の選手として、対等にフレンドリーに接してくれたこと、たくさんの人にサポートしてもらったことを僕は絶対に忘れないでしょう。

だから、何があっても、Jリーグでプレーしたいと思っています。
残念ながら、その時は合格しませんでしたが、僕はまだ諦めていません。
また、必ずチャレンジします。

－ヒーロープロジェクトのリーダーとして、ネパールの青年や子どもたち、日本の子どもたちに伝えたいことは何でしょうか？

僕が子どもや、若ものたちに伝えたいこと、それは夢を持とうということ。
そして、そのために努力しようということ。

夢を叶えるのは簡単ではありません。

夢を叶えるためには、時には何かを諦めることだって必要です。常に目標に焦点を合わせ、自分を律し、努力し続けることが求められます。
人間だから、怠け心が出てくることもあります。その時に、その心に負けるか、自分が何になりたいのか思い出して踏ん張ることができるかが、問われます。

それからもう一つ忘れてはならないのが感謝の気持ちです。
両親に対して、先生やコーチに対して、そして仲間に対して、感謝し、敬意を持って接することができる人間になって欲しいと思います。

一流のプロの選手というものは、人間的にも素晴らしいものです。いい選手になりたかったら、誠実で人に敬意を払える良き人になることが大事です。

1990年ネパール生まれ。2008年ネパールのAディビジョン（日本でいうJ1）にてプロデビュー。同年ネパール代表チームデビューも果たし、現在2020年に至るまで正ゴールキーパーとして活躍する。現在ネパール代表チームのキャプテンも務める。
ネパール国内外の数々のクラブチームでプレー、インドやモルディブのリーグでも活躍し、両国でリーグチャンピオンに輝く。
俊敏性にすぐれ、頭の回転が早く、チームをリードしていく素質を持つ。
現在、レアーレワールドのヒーロープロジェクトのリーダーとしても活動中。

The national team of Nepal first-choice goalkeeper
Kiran Kumar Limbu (Chemjong)

To change the soccer in Nepal, and to give dream and hope for the children, I will challenge the J league!

Through the Hero Project run by Reale World, we aim to develop leaders who can become a role model to lead the children for the next generation.

In our interview, we discussed with the project’s leader Kiran. He is giving much influence and impact to the children in Nepal and Japan by showing his persistent effort to pursue his dream.

We asked Kiran about his transformation by involving with Reale World and his message for the children.

1) When and where did you start playing soccer?

I was born in a small village far away from Kathumandu (capital of Nepal). I was 12 years old when I first started playing soccer, and it was only for a fun without any particular positions. Then I chose to be a goalkeeper around 13 or 14 years old.

When I was at the village, playing soccer was really fun, but my family was too poor to buy me any shoes. So, I got a pair of used shoes from other person, and since it was tourn apart, I rode the bus for one hour to get it fixed. I loved playing soccer so much that I was playing every day after school.

2) When did you decide to become a professional player? And why?

Soon afterwards, I got scouted by a team playing for the state. And when I turned 15, I was called by the U16 national youth team in Nepal. For the following three years, I studied and played soccer at the ANFA (Nepal Football Association) in Kathumandu. I have been in the youth national team since U16, but I was never given an opportunity for the games. But I never gave up on my career and trained so hard every day to improve myself so I can play for the national games.

When I was 18, I was finally chosen as the starting member. And it wasn’t for the youth team, but it was the national team of Nepal. When I joined the team, there were many older experienced players in the national team including the goalkeepers, so I only had a humble intention to learn from them at first. But I felt so grateful that there were people watching and acknowledging my effort. I was so glad and felt truly rewarding that I didn’t give up when I couldn’t play for the games and continued making effort.

That is when I really decided to pursue my career, to become a professional soccer player! I signed a contract with the professional club when I was 19, and that is when my life has started as a professional player.

3) why did you decide to cooperate with the Hero Project?

The board member of Reale World, Santosh is one of the older players I truly respect, and I had played with him in the club team as well as in the national team.

And when Santosh returned to Nepal with the chairman of REALE WORLD, Aya Miyoshi, they’ve reached me to explain me about the Hero Project. I was told that the Hero Project is a project to develop a role model like a hero for children, and by doing so it can lead the children to create a world with hope. I was fascinated by this vision and truly felt this project can be vital for the next generation.

And I became part of the project because this was something I really wanted to be, to become a role model who creates hope for the children!

4) Has there been any change before you met Reale World and after you met Reale World?

I’ve learned so much since I met Reale World.

Everything from how to manage the diet as an athlete, understanding the body maintenance, more effective way to do the training, and what it is to be humble, to value gratitude, to be self-disciplined, etc., Reale World had taught me what it takes to be a professional athlete as well as how to be a good person.

I had been trying my best, but they have taught me so much to fill up what I was missing. And this transformation had encouraged me to interact more deeply and positively with not only soccer but with my life.

Many of the current professional athletes in Nepal lack to have a professional mindset. You can see a lot of players use any means in order to win, or behave disrespectfully just because he is good at playing soccer. By meeting Reale World, I strongly felt the urge to change such situation of soccer in Nepal.

5) What did you feel when you challenged the J League in 2019?

If you compared to Nepal, Japan is highly more advanced in soccer. So, it was truly exciting and grateful experience for me to be able to make this tryout for the J league team.

The level of players were highly advanced and the soccer facility was spectacular, everything was much better in quality than Nepal. But that was not the only surprise, through the tryout, I encountered such a beautiful culture and compassion that Japanese people have.

I will never forget how they treated me equally and how I was supported by many people, even coming from a developing country inferior in soccer level, they did not look down on me and treated me very friendly as a one soccer player.

That is why I really wish to play for the J league.
Unfortunately, I could not pass the tryout, but I will not give up.
I am determined to challenge again.

6) As the leader of Hero Project, what message would you like to send for the youth and children in Nepal and children in Japan?

The message I want to give for the children and youth is the significance of having a dream.
And to make effort for their dream.

Making the dream come true is not easy.

Sometimes it requires you to give up on other thigs in order to achieve your dream. It requires you to always focus on your goal, to discipline yourself, and to constantly make an effort.

It is natural for us as a human being to be lazy sometimes. But in that instance, we have to ask ourselves if we are going to let the temptation take over us or if we are going to strive towards what we want to become.

And another thing that we should never forget is the gratitude.

I wish them to become a person who remembers to be thankful and to interact respectfully to their parents, teachers, coaches and teammates, because the true top professional player is also admirable as a person.

If they wish to become an outstanding player, it is important to be a good person who is honest and knows how to respect others.
I hope to lead them as such example, and will continue to strive forward!

Born in 1990. His professional debut was in 2008 for the team of first division in Nepal. In the same year, he was chosen for the national team in Nepal, and had been the first-choice goalkeeper until today. In 2020, he is now the captain of the national team.
Played for the teams in and out of Nepal, making many achievements, and had become the league champion both in India and Maldives.
Talented with great agility, fast thinker, and has the quality of leadership to lead the team.
Currently, he is appointed as the leader of Reale World’s project, the Hero Project.
