レアーレカップで子どもたちから寄付された靴をケニアの子どもたちにお届けしました！

2021年３月に開催された「U-8レアーレカップ2021」において、日本の子どもたちからケニアの子どもたちに寄付された靴は132足。
今回、YOKOHAMAまごころ基金様、横浜ゴム株式会社様のご支援により、それらの靴を、ケニアにお届けすることができました。

また、今回、現地でのサポートしてくださったのは、マラソンオリンピックメダリストのダグラス・ワキウリさんで、NPO法人国連支援交流協会の理事長をなさっている廣谷和信様にご紹介いただきました。

ワキウリさんには、私たちの到着前から支援先の選定や、日本から送られた靴たちの現地受け取りに必要な書類作成など、現地で動いていただきました。

実は、ケニアでの活動は2014年にもナイロビのキベラスラムで行っており、ケニアの子ども2人とコーチ1人を日本に招聘し、日本の子どもたちとの交流活動も実施しています。
しかし、レアーレワールドの活動を理解し、協力してくれる現地の方の協力なしには、活動の継続が難しく、その後、活動が進んでいませんでした。

今回、ワキウリさんと出会ったことで、ケニアでの活動の足かがりができ、次のステップに進むことができましたこと、深く感謝申し上げます。

今回、レアーレワールドからは、スタッフ2名が現地に向かい、ワキウリさんの案内で数カ所のクラブやコミュニティを訪問、最終的に、カワングワレというコミュニティの子どもたちに靴をお届けすることに決めました。

カワングワレはナイロビ中心部から車で20分ほどの町で、労働者階級の人々の住むエリアです。
街のメインバスパークの裏に、公共のグラウンドがあり、カワングワレの人なら誰でも使えます。

ここには8つのキッズチームが活動しており、サッカーをしたい子どもなら誰でも参加できます。入団料や月謝はなく、コーチはこのエリアの大人がボランティアで指導します。

その代わり、この子どもたちの中からプロ選手が生まれた場合、その選手はプロ選手として得たお金の一部をこのコミュニティに収める仕組みとなっています。それがこのエリアのキッズチームの活動資金となるということでした。

訪問時には、子どもたちが練習に来ていましたが、子どもたちの年齢は5歳くらいから15歳くらいまで様々。運動靴の子どももいましたが、スリッパやサンダルばきの子も混じってのプレーです。ナイロビ中心部の富裕層の子どもたちに比べると体は全体的に細く小さく、普段着と練習着の区別なく、普段の格好のまま、サッカーをプレーしているようでした。

聞くと、この辺りでは、小学校の先生で月給は10,000～15,000円ということで、月謝を払って習い事をさせる余裕のある家庭は少なく、サッカーウエアやシューズを買う余裕がないのが一般家庭の現状のようでした。

とはいえ靴の数は限られており、サイズが合うかどうかという問題もあり、コミュニティの全ての子どもたちに配布することは難しいため、どうするのが良いのか、私たちは、カワングワレのコミュニティの世話役のワホメさんとコーチたちと話し合いました。

その結果、今回は、靴を買うのが経済的に厳しい家庭の子どもで、かつ、練習を頑張っている子に優先的に配布するということになりました。

さらに、寄付をして終わりではなく、継続して繋がりをもち、ゆくゆくは、日本の青年とケニアの子どもたちが一緒にサッカーするスタディツアーを企画するなどして、交流を深めていければと考えています。

この度は、レアーレカップでご寄付がいただいた靴から、ケニアで新しいチーム、コミュニティと出会うことができました。この活動にご賛同いただき、参加してくださった方々、支援してくださった方々、全ての方に深く感謝申し上げます。

【WORLD FRIENDS PROJECT】

Delivered Shoes to Children in KENYA!

The total numbers of  the shoes donated from Japanese children to Kenyaat 「U8 REALE CUP 2021」held in Mar 2021　were 132.
We are pleased to announce that with the great support from The YOKOHAMA Magokoro Fund and The YOKOHAMA Rubber Co., Ltd.,we could have shipped and delivered those shoes to children in Kenya.We are most grateful.

It was the Olympic Marathon Medalist, Mr. Douglas WAKIIHURI that locally helped us through Mr. Kazunobu HIRIOTANI’s introduction.
Mr. HIROTANI is the Chairman of the Foundation For The Support Of The United Nations, INC.
Mr. WAKIIHURI had been working on the selection of the support destination, documentation and communication with the postal/customs office in Nairobi before our arrival. 

In 2014 REALE WORLD visited Kibera, which is one of Africa’s largest slums and invited two children and one coach from Kibera to Japan for cultural exchangewith Japanese children. But it was quite difficult to continue our activities without support from the local party with good understanding towards REALE WORLD and we haven’t made any progress. 
Finally we could make the next step to our activities in Kenya by the miraculous encounter with Mr. WAKIIHURI. 
We cannot thank  Mr. WAKIIHURI and Mr. HIROTANI enough.

Two of the REALE WORLD staff travelled to Kenya this time.
We decided to deliver those shoes to the children living in a community called Kawangware after visiting some local football clubs and communities under Mr. WAKIIHURI’s conduct.

Kawangware is located 20minutes away from central Nairobi by car and a working-class district.
There is a public ground open for anyone in Kawangware and 8 kids teams belong with volunteer coaches. Anyone who wishes to play soccer can join without an admission fee or monthly fee. Instead, if a professional player comes from those teams, he/she will pay some amount from his/her earnings. It will become their activity funds.

We met children aged 5 to 15 practicing there.
Some of them were wearing sports shoes and others slippers or sandals. It seemed that their bodies were skinny and small compared to those of the wealthy class in central Nairobi.

The average salary of elementary school teachers around there is JPY10,000～15,000, so ordinary homes can afford either lesson’s fee nor soccer wears and shoes. It is their present situation.

After the meeting with the manager of the Kawangware community, we decided to give priority delivering shoes to children from indigent families, also practicing earnestly. 

We completed our activities like this, but this is not the end of our activities in Kenya. We will maintain good relations and strengthen cultural exchanges through study tour for Japanese young people and Kenyan children playing soccer togetherin the near future.
 
Donated shoes at REALE CUP connected us to the new teams and communities in Kenya.
